Reflection Note: This career plan has been a work-in-progress. Work on this document began during my freshman year of high school and it has been updated annually over the course of the past three years. Its purpose is to guide me towards reaching my career goals.Career Goal:
Long term I would like to own and operate my own home construction business. Until I am ready for such an undertaking I will enjoy learning about the craft and business to increase my skills and knowledge.Long-range, general abilities and requirements:
- At least an associates degree in construction and carpentry
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Creativity
- Analytical thinking skills
- Capacity for detail work
- Presentation skills
- Writing skills
- Knowledge of physical sciences and mathematics
- Accreditation by licensing board
- Summer employment in a related field/continuing Cooperative Education position possibly.
- High school mathematics courses (geometry, advanced algebra, calculus)
- High school science courses (chemistry)
- Experience working within a team (summer employment, school organizations, course projects)
- High school writing courses (four years of English, technical writing)
- Top 10% of class
- Member, National Technical Honor Society
- Natural creative ability and organizational skills
- Graduate in top 10% of high school class
- Achieve good test scores
- Be accepted to a two-year trade school/college
- Keep grades up to meet requirements for School of Engineering
- Continue work experience with internship or part-time/summer employment
- Participate in campus organizations for engineering students
- Earn an associate's degree
- Consider bachelor degree in business administration or management
- Improve presentation and writing skills by focusing on courses designed to enhance them
- Research potential apprenticeship possibilities
